The Compassion Games are back!

Compassion Games

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you may recall that I dedicated 2014 to compassion and learning to be more self loving. Here’s the post where I stated my intentions along with 11 tips for thriving.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. ~ Leo Buscaglia

I can attest to the truth of these words. Recently, I’ve received some simple gifts that deeply touched my heart, including someone letting me go ahead of them at the grocery checkout, an offer to listen and a surprise gift. They all touched me to my core. Thank You! 🙂

Please consider playing along with the Compassion Games.

Last year, our little college town of 80,000 people, Fayetteville, AR, actually won one segment of the compassion games. We accomplished this due to a dedicated core of individuals who created the local group, public forums and community support that lead to Fayetteville winning the contest for most acts recorded. They carried that momentum to register Fayetteville as a Compassionate City with the International Organization, and then a proclamation by our Major Lioneld Jordan and month long celebration of compassion.

The best part is that we all win. The spirit of the games is friendly cooperation to raise the awareness of compassion for people around the globe. From Compassiongames.org, the goal is to challenge and inspire your neighbors to make your community a safer, kinder, more just and better place to live by participating in the Compassion Games! Locally, the vision for the Compassion Fayetteville group is to cultivate compassion in ourselves, community and world through CARES: Connect, Awareness, Respect, Empathy and Service.

There are many ways to play the Compassion Games, including join a team, become a Secret Agent of compassion, volunteer, sign the charter, nominate Compassion All-Stars, start a Compassion Relay or use the Compassion App. Several local groups have formed teams to compete with each other while increasing compassion for our whole community. I am joining as part of the local team for Unity of Fayetteville. And this post counts as one of my acts of kindness!

Ideally you will be inspired to perform one random act of kindness or compassion each day during the games from September 11th to September 21st. Even one compassionate act blesses you, the recipient and your community. And by recording your act on the compassion games website, you share the energy with a world wide audience who are celebrating kindness around the world.

Are you ready? Let the Games Begin! 🙂
